Two weeks ago, i went into Shoppers here in Welland just to get nailpolish. The sales lady at the cosmetics counter was so unbelievably nice and helpful. She was polite and enthsiastic. My shade happened to be on sale, and although i only made a $3 purchase, she treated me with the same kindness and respect as she would if i had spent $50. If only there were more people like that in the customer service world.

I recommend the Shoppers Drug Mart at the Seaway Mall.

She wanted us to apprach every customer that walked into the store and introduce our new collection, point out the sale section, talk about the fabric, tell them that its good for all year round and encourage them to try on anything they touch. Not only that, but she watched us to make sure we are doing it correctly. Than she would jump in and try to sell them even more stuff. So while I’m trying to practice what she taught me, she doesnt give me the chance because she takes the customer away from me. It was so stressful going into this place that i dreaded it. Needless to say, I did not stay at that job very long. Not only was it an hour drive from my house, i really did not fit into that type of environment. I dont intend on being a pushy sales person because most people do not appreciate it and just yell at you.

Now, on to restaurants. As an employee of the food service industry, I find myself to be very critical of the service I receive at other places. On the weekend, I went to a restaurant (where I have been many times) and received the worst service. The server did not bring my drink for about 10 mins, and completely disappeared for about 15. My food came, and I had to ask another server for my drink. Than, when she finally reappeared, she did not check on the table. When it came time for the bill, she double checked it in-front of the table than placed it down, than I see that we were charged twice for the same meal and that our bill was $15 higher than it should have been. Completely unapologetic, she asks the manager to fix it and gives it back. By the end of the night, I was so frustrated because I knew that if I were to ever provide such terrible service at my work, I would not get a tip.

So my real question is, what is wrong with customer service these days? How is it that employees just don’t care to perform to their best abilities and keep the customers happy? This really needs to come to someones attention because the lack of their attention is what causes shop lifting and customers walking out on their bills.
